Lagom is a customisable range of sustainable kitchen cabinetry, made to exacting standards and with the highest quality materials, but with a clean, minimalist design and built in a modular form, we are able to offer it at a more affordable price.

Lagom (lah-gomm) is a Swedish expression meaning 'not too little, not too much'. Although an ancient word with simple roots, it has gained traction in recent years as a philosophy for those seeking balance, sustainability and mindfulness in their lives.
Developed along the principles of Lagom, our new range of kitchen cabinetry has a clean, minimalist design with clever construction ideas for ease of use, maintenance and repair or alteration in the future. Whilst the doors and cabinets themselves follow the same design for all of the Lagom kitchens, the layout will be unique to your own home.
Customers have the option of 24 elegant Forbo furniture linoleum colours to choose from, as well as unlimited paint finishes or even a contrasting oak finish for individual cabinets or the entire kitchen.
Our Lagom kitchens use the highest quality materials for durability. In creating this design we have focussed on longevity and sustainability to offer an alternative to the often disposable nature of modern furniture and kitchen cabinetry. You will find no foil wrapped chipboard or mdf in our Lagom kitchens. Instead we use just three core high quality materials: engineered birch plywood; oak; and Forbo furniture linoleum.

Drawing on tens of thousands of hours of design and production experience, we have created our Lagom kitchen range aimed at customers looking for something a bit more special than the commonly available mass produced offerings.

We have achieved this through careful design to minimise production costs, but without compromising on the quality of the materials, ensuring the kitchens remain built to last a lifetime.

Small kitchens are likely to cost between £10,000 and £14,000 (including VAT) for the cabinetry only. When including appliances, worktops and cabinetry installation, costs will  average between £20,000 and £25,000.

When considering your layout, cabinets with drawers may be more practical for access but are more costly to produce than open cupboards with adjustable shelving.
Medium kitchens are likely to cost between £14,000 and £20,000 for the cabinetry only. When including appliances, worktops and cabinetry installation, costs will average between £25,000 and £35,000.

As well as more cabinetry and perhaps a greater variety of cabinet types to house fridges or oven stacks, the layout is likely to be slightly more complex involving more work in the installation.
Large kitchens are likely to cost between £20,000 and £32,000 for the cabinetry only. When including appliances, worktops and cabinetry installation, costs will average between £35,000 and £48,000.

Large kitchens will include a wide mix of cabinetry types resulting in higher installation costs, with complex layouts and potentially additional appliances.

Perhaps the single most important environmental action any designer / maker can take is to design and construct products that last as long as possible, as ultimately it is our consumption of our planet's resources that has the most significant impact.

Replacing a kitchen is costly, time consuming and environmentally wasteful and if the old cabinetry is of such poor quality that it cannot be reused it will end up in landfill.
Our Lagom kitchen range has been designed to:
  • last a lifetime with high quality engineered birch plywood used for durability rather than chipboard or mdf along with solid oak detailing and oak veneered birch plywood where decorative oak panels are required;
  • be easy to maintain and repairable with the cabinetry components at highest risk of damage being removable for simple replacement or repair;
  • be more easily dismantled and moved or resold to avoid good quality materials ending up in landfill;
  • use more environmentally friendly finishes including water based paints and lacquers as well as linseed oil based furniture linoleum to provide the striking door colours.

In most cases, we will be responsible for the site survey, design and installation of your new kitchen, seeing it through to completion. For these full projects our process is  generally as follows:

  • initial discussion to understand your requirements after which we will provide you with an estimate of costs and lead times;
  • face to face meeting to discuss the layout and project in more detail;
  • we prepare design options and a quote;
  • pay a deposit to confirm your project;
  • we carry out a detailed site survey and refine layout and final specification for approval;
  • cabinetry production;
  • we deliver and install your new Lagom kitchen cabinetry.

However, if for proximity or other reasons you would like to use your own installers and/or wish to carry out the site survey yourself, then we would be happy to discuss this with you and can offer the kitchen cabinetry on a supply only basis.
